Like all Penstemons, ‘Firebird’ (also called Penstemon ‘Schoenholzeri’) is an attractive  shrub with an upright habit.  It is a vigorous grower that produces  a profusion of trumpet shaped red flowers in mid summer through to mid  autumn.  The shrub grows to approximately 90 cm in height and 60cm in width.  Penstemon ‘Garnet’ prefers a sunny aspect with moist but well drained soil.  It will tolerate moderate frosts.  A medium prune and feed with Osmocote Outdoors Trees & Shrubs after flowering will keep the plant compact and healthy.

Penstemons are a great addition to any garden.  They can be used as a specimen plant, tub plant,  en masse for an eye catching affect or even as a low hedge.  They look good interplanted with bright flowering perennials like Salvia Blue Lightning, Felicia ‘Gold Dust’, or as a backdrop to the small Lavenders like Lavandula ‘Plum’ or Lavandula viridis  ‘Beverly’

Penstemon ‘Firebird’ is one of a range of Penstemons collected from around the world by Larkman Nurseries.  Collect a range to add color and variety to your garden.
