During the nineties Hebes became one of the more popular plants around the world. There were concentrated breeding programs in several countries with many new forms coming out of the UK. ‘Black Beauty’ is a stunning shrub with dark purple-black foliage and purple flowers in late spring and summer. Give it a light prune in late summer if needed followed by regular applications of Seasol and PowerFeed to maintain its best appearance.
Hebe ‘Black Beauty’ is an easy to grow plant that reaches around 90cm to 1m in height making an excellent soft hedge for a cottage garden. With a regular clip it will produce a nice formal hedge or place several plants together to make a focal point for the garden. Plant in tubs or boxes for the patio or terrace. Black Beauty likes a well drained but moist soil with part to full sun. It will tolerate coastal conditions and moderate frosts. Plant with Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ and Symphyotrichum 'Lady in Black' for a dark colored garden or behind Euonymous ‘Pierolino’ for a contrast of foliage color.
