This is another exciting plant to come out of China.  It is a a dark foliage form of C. fexuosa .  It will usually go dormant in hotter climates during late summer but will come away again for autumn and winter color followed by a colourful show in spring..

Corydalis flexuosa ’Purple Leaf’ has pretty blue flowers with a delicate scent.  They are held about 10cm above the foliage and are a long tube in small clusters.  The plant will grow to 30cm high and 55cm wide.  Feed after flowering with Osmocote Outdoor Trees and Shrubs.  In poor soils an early spring feed is also beneficial and a medium prune to bring on a repeat flowering is also good.

‘Purple Leaf’ looks best when planted in groups of four or five in a lightly shade position with a rich moist root run.  For an all blue garden plant with Agapanthus ‘Kingston Blue’ or Ceratostigma wilmottianum’  For mix of colors plant with Hosta ‘Francee’, Heuchera ‘Amber Waves’ and Geranium ‘Rozanne’
