Asters, or Easter Daisy are a popular border plant from the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere.  The best ones come from north eastern USA.  There are numerous cultivars and hybrids, mostly from Aster novi –angliae and Aster novi-belgii named after the original name for New York – New Amsterdam.  ‘Dove Blue’ is a lovely tall form with masses of soft blue flowers in late summer to mid autumn.  Growing to 60cm tall and 80cm wide it is best grown as a border in a cottage garden.

Dove Blue likes a part to full sun (in cooler climates) location with good drainage.  Like all Asters it will respond well to an application of Osmocote during mid spring with a prune in late autumn.  They also like a good watering over summer.  Plant with Agapanthus  ‘Kingston Blue’, Rosmarinus and Corydalis.
