Like all Penstemons, ‘Thorn’ is a freely flowering medium sized shrub with a bushy habit.  It has masses of elongated pink and white flowers in late summer and early autumn.  The shrub grows to approximately 90 cm in height and 60cm in width.  Penstemon ‘Thorn’ prefers a sunny aspect with moist but well drained soil.  It will tolerate moderate frosts and some shade.  A medium prune after flowering and regular applications of  Seasol and Power Feed will keep it looking its best.

Penstemons are a great addition to any garden.  They can be used as a specimen plant, tub plant,  en masse for an eye catching affect or even as a low hedge.  They look good interplanted with spring flowering perennials like Diascia ‘Belmore Beauty’, Calamintha ‘White Cloud’, or as a backdrop to the small Lavenders like Lavender Impressions or Mt Lofty Lavender
