‘Pensham Czar’ is a medium sized shrub with masses of deep plum flowers with a bright white throat in mid summer and early autumn. The shrub grows to approximately 70 cm in height and 50cm in width. Penstemon ‘Pensham Czar’ prefers a sunny aspect with moist but well drained soil. It is a strong grower and will tolerate light to moderate frosts and some shade. Feed regularly during summer and autumn with Seasol and PowerFeed and prune after floering to keep the plant compact and healthy.
Penstemons are a great addition to any garden. They can be used as a specimen plant, tub plant, en masse for an eye catching effect or even as a low hedge. ‘Pensham Czar’ looks good planted with Salvia 'Blue Abyss' and Salvia ‘Silas Dyson’, or with Carex elata 'Bowles Golden' and Gaura 'Blaze'
